Kinja'd!!!1 Kinja'd!!! 15

Late the other night, I saw the taillights of a VW Amarok. I live in Austin, TX. How is this possible?

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

Wikipedia - VW Amarok

Whatever vehicle it was, it was a 4-door mid-sized pickup, it was silver, and it had the very distinctive VW "hockeystick and a square" taillamp design. The driver side looked kinda dinged up.

I'm getting kinda tired of coming here with less-than-credible sightings of cars that don't exist (or shouldn't exist in this part of the world, that is).

Anyone able to back me up here?

Well they are sold in Mexico and people are aloud to cross the border with them, even if they aren't sold here

Oh, they ARE sold in Mexico then? The wiki article didn't mention Mexico... That would make sense, though.

I remember living in SoCal, seeing a VW Bora for the first time. Lots of VW love in Mexico, it would seem!

If they aren't sold in Mexico, I doubt their import laws are as strict as ours. A couple years ago someone posted one for sale on TheSamba.com saying they bought it in Mexico.

In the UK they're called the Anorak.

Could it have been a new Colorado?

That's what I thought at first, or a Tacoma. But those were definitely VW tails... They had that current-gen corporate taillight pattern.

They are sold in Mexico. Could also have been someone from Canada. When I worked at the BPS in AZ, we had Canadians come through all the time. They seem to love the American southwest.

They didn't do one. Could be the convertible with some aftermarket hard-top though, perhaps?
